Clamps

Tartu 2006
To make the body of a barge watertight, tarred tow is pressed in the cavities between the planing, fixed by sealing strips which are in turn held in their places by clamps and clamp nails. Once the thin iron clamps are in the wood, they stay there. Altogether, there are about 12,000 clamps and clamp nails in the
body of a barge.
